UN funding for African 'green' projects

The UN Environment Programme has partnered with South Africa's Standard Bank and Germany's International Climate Initiative to develop a new carbon project as part of the fight against climate change in Africa. The initiative has already awarded grants to three "green" projects around the continent.

Eskom to push low-carbon technologies

State power company Eskom says it will use its proposed $3.75-billion World Bank loan to roll out "lower carbon technologies", such as large-scale solar-thermal and wind power, as well as to fund construction of the Medupi coal-fired power station.
