Sasol in Mozambican gas venture

South Africa's Sasol and Mozambican state-owned energy company Empresa Naçional de Hidrocarbonetos are proceeding with their gas exploration project off the Mozambican coast, with drilling expected to start in the third quarter of 2008. If successful, the natural gas will be sold to markets in both countries.

Major milestone for Gautrain

The first four-car train set for South Africa's rapid rail link was handed over to Gauteng premier Mbhazima Shilowa in Derby, England on Tuesday. The Gautrain line between Johannesburg, Pretoria and OR Tambo International airport is currently under construction, in one of the biggest infrastructure projects ever seen in South Africa.

Dept urges action on fuel security

A senior Minerals and Energy official has urged members of Parliament to approve the construction of a new multi-product pipeline between Durban and Gauteng province in order to avoid future fuel shortages in the country.

Limpopo gets R7.4bn water project

The government has signed a memorandum of agreement with 23 mining companies to jointly invest R7.4-billion in the Olifants River water project, which aims to unlock mining opportunities, increase water provision and possibly generate electricity in the Limpopo province.
