VWSA wins huge Polo export order

Volkswagen South Africa is set to double the number of cars it exports from its Eastern Cape plant, after the company won an order to export 19 000 new-generation Polo hatchbacks in 2009 and 55 000 of the same cars to international right-hand-drive markets in 2010.

Vehicle sales down, but exports soar

Sales of passenger vehicles and light and heavy commercial vehicles continued to decline in October, though sales of medium commercial vehicles jumped by 15% and exports soared by 50% – helped by a recovery in South Africa's export markets.

First ships dock at Port of Ngqura

The first commercial vessels have discharged their cargo at South Africa's new deepwater Port of Ngqura, which forms part of the Coega industrial development zone outside Port Elizabeth in the Eastern Cape province.

Car exports 'to remain weak in 2010'

South African vehicle exports will remain weak through 2010 due to limited international demand and a strong rand, though new vehicle sales will start picking up from mid-2010, TransUnion Auto Information Solutions CEO Mike von Hone predicts.
