SA, Nigeria to push trade, investment

While trade between South Africa and Nigeria rose from $16.5-million in 1999 to $2.1-billion in 2008, this was barely "scratching the surface" of business opportunities between the two countries, Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe told the SA-Nigeria Bi-National Commission in Pretoria.

Standard Bank has signed a US$150-million loan agreement with the Japan Bank for International Cooperation in order to boost trade finance in Africa. The deal will also serve as a platform for future cooperation across a range of different banking products and geographies.
