FUEL
Petrol price to hit all-time high
Posted Wed, 30 Mar 2005

The price of petrol will rise by 38 cents next week, bringing the Gauteng price to an all-time high of five rand a litre.

The Department of Minerals and Energy said on Tuesday the price of all categories of fuel would rise.

The wholesale price of diesel with a 0.3 percent sulphur content would increase by 55 cents a litre, and that with a 0.05 percent sulphur content by 65 cents.

The wholesale price of paraffin was going up 48 cents per litre, while the maximum retail price was increased by 65 cents.

Department spokesperson Yvonne Mfolo said these prices were projections, which would be finalised on Friday or Monday.

The increase would take effect on Wednesday, April 6.

This follows another steep increase earlier this month, in which petrol went up 42 cents a litre, and diesel between 33 and 35 cents.
