Beige hit by strong rand
Posted Wed, 30 Mar 2005

Cosmetics manufacturer Beige Holdings on Tuesday warned that it would report a loss for the year to February, as a result of pressure on gross margins due to the strong rand, which has affected export sales and increased local competition.

Beige said in a trading statement that although revenues are higher, earnings and headline earnings per share are expected to be “substantially lower” in relation to the comparative period in the prior year.

Headline earnings will fall from R2.7-million to a loss of R3.5-million.

Shares gained one cent on the AltX market on Tuesday.
