Sasol found guilty at tribunal
Posted Fri, 01 Apr 2005
The Competition Tribunal ruled on Thursday that Sasol contravened the Competition Act by engaging in unlawful price discrimination in its dealings with Nationwide Poles, according to Business Report.
According to the ruling, Sasol will pay Nationwide Poles' legal costs to ensure that expensive legal costs in the future would not deter smaller companies from accessing the competition authorities in cases where they feel they were not being treated equally by larger dominant companies.
According to the daily, Nationwide Poles chief executive Jim Foot brought the case to competition authorities two years ago arguing that Sasol charged the company 18 percent more for creosote than Nationwide Poles' rivals.
Foot may now take civil action against Sasol, the daily reported. Creosote is used by Nationwide Poles to treat poles that are sold to the wine industry.
