Highveld won't sell alloys unit
Posted Mon, 18 Jul 2005

Highveld Steel & Vanadium announced on Friday it would not be selling its Transalloys unit, due to the significant decrease in silica manganese export prices.

The Anglo American subsidiary had received a number of unsolicited offers for its alloys division, and was trading under a cautionary announcement.

However, it said that due to the decrease in prices, "the disposal of Transalloys would not serve to maximise shareholder value at this time".

It added that the disposal process for Rand Carbide is continuing, but its value was not material to the company.
