Telkom is not in any discussions with Vodafone to merge the two companies, Telkom said on Monday.
The group made the announcement following reports in the weekend press that Vodafone was contemplating taking over the SA group.
According to a statement released by Telkom on Monday, Telkom CEO Papi Molotsane met Vodafone CEO Arun Sarin last week, where they discussed issues of mutual interest between the two companies.
According to Molotsane: "The objective of the meeting was to explore possibilities of maximising our joint investment in Vodacom". Telkom and Vodafone each hold a 50 percent stake in Vodacom.
"At no stage did the two representatives discuss the sale of Telkom," Molotsane added.
