Guma appointed as SARB advisor
Posted Tue, 04 Jul 2006
SA Reserve Bank Governor Tito Mboweni said on Monday he has appointed former deputy governor Xolile Pallo Guma as his special adviser.
Guma's term as deputy governor expired last month on which Mboweni appointed him as a special advisor. Although his title changes he continues to act as deputy governor.
"Dr Guma shall on a temporary basis, until the date of the official appointment of a deputy governor into the vacant position previously occupied by him, or, until 30 June 2009, whichever date arrives first, act as deputy governor," Mboweni said in a media statement.
Under the SA Reserve Bank Act President Thabo Mbeki appoints the governor and deputy governors.
Mboweni said if Mbeki decides not re-appoint Guma he would continue to serve as his special adviser.
"He will continue to attend meetings of the governor's executive committee and the monetary policy committee of the Bank," Mboweni said.
