Eskom's cleaning 'nearly finished'
Posted Mon, 10 Jul 2006
Eskom has nearly finished cleaning its electricity transmission lines in the Southern Cape and along the West Coast, the utility said on Friday. It began a concerted programme to spray-wash the lines after a short circuit from grime-covered lines tripped the Koeberg nuclear power station late last year. It said maintenance and cleansing teams were working round the clock to "stabilise the grid status". The spray-washing of all Southern Cape lines had been completed. While the bulk of the washing of the West Coast lines had been completed, cleaning of the Aurora Juno line was still in progress.
