South Africa added 99 000 jobs in the third quarter, while earnings paid to employees rose by 2.8 percent, data released on Tuesday showed.
According to Statistics South Africa's Quarterly Employment Statistics survey, employment in the formal non-agricultural business sector rose by 1.4 percent to 7.1 million during the three months to September.
The survey covers about 24 000 private and public enterprises.
The increase in employment can be attributed to the favourable economic conditions and resultant rise in consumer spending, which has boosted the retail, manufacturing and finance industries, according to Business Report.
