SABC doubles its profits

The SABC made a profit of R383-million for the 2005/2006 financial year, SABC radio news reported on Wednesday.
This almost doubled the R194-million profit of the previous year.
Group chief executive Dali Mpofu made this announcement while announcing the corporation's annual results in Auckland Park.
The SABC generated over R3.9-billion in revenue for the past financial year.
He said radio and television, had shown positive growth. Revenue from licence fees increased by 30 percent from R739-million.
SABC board chairperson Eddie Funde said the corporation had made great strides in ensuring it retained the position as the country's most influential media institution.
Funde said radio coverage had increased dramatically, particularly at Ikwekwezi and Ukhozi Fm.
The SABC had increased its spend on key programming areas and in particular in producing more news.
