ICT training for Cape youths

Young people from the Western Cape are to benefit from the Kulisa Project, an information and communications technology training initiative launched in Cape Town last week.
Kulisa, which means "to nurture", will provide 130 young people from previously disadvantaged communities with practical exposure to the information and communications technology (ICT) environment.
The project, part of the city's SmartCity Strategy, is funded by the department of trade and industry and the Information Systems, Electronics and Telecommunications Technologies SETA. ICT company CS Holdings will conduct the training as a partner in the project.
Speaking at the launch of the project, Cape Town's Deputy Mayor, Pierre Uys, said the city aims to increase the pool of skilled persons in the ICT sector. "The right skills are needed to continuously drive organisations and contribute to economic growth", Uys said.
Some of the participants will be trained
as technicians, while others will undergo training as application and software developers.
"Interns will have access to both theoretical and practical knowledge, thus preparing them for employment on completion of their year-long learnership", Uys said.
