SA economy 'above average free'
South Africa's economy is 63% free, according to the latest Index of Economic Freedom from the Washington-based Heritage Foundation and the Wall Street Journal. The country was ranked 57th out of 157 countries worldwide and fourth out of 40 in sub-Saharan Africa.



No major shift in policy: Zuma
In his first public address as president of the ANC, Jacob Zuma reassured the business community that the change in the party's leadership would not lead to a fundamental shift in policy, and that his party recognised the need for increased domestic and foreign investment in the country.



SA identifies key growth sectors
The South African government's national industrial policy framework has identified sectors such as capital goods, transport equipment, automotive manufacturing, pharmaceuticals and forestry as crucial to creating shared growth, encouraging employment and reducing poverty.



Mbeki outlines growth priorities
Local production of quality capital goods is among a number of priorities the government has identified as it moves to ensure continued expansion of South Africa's economy, says President Thabo Mbeki.
