R60bn for Eskom construction
Finance Minister Trevor Manuel has allocated R60-billion of South Africa's 2008/09 Budget to state company Eskom to assist with a five-year, R343-billion construction programme to bring the country's electricity infrastructure in line with the demands of a growing economy.



SA awards R31bn power contracts
South African state company Eskom has awarded French firm Alstom and the local arm of Germany-based Hitachi Power contracts worth more than R31-billion to equip a new coal-fired power station in Mpumalanga province.



AECI eyes power generation
South African chemicals, explosives and property company AECI has proposed a number of ways to tackle the country's electricity shortage, including the possibility of generating power from coal or gas at its Modderfontein site outside Johannesburg.



Hulett to pilot power project
South African agri-processing company Tongaat Hulett is in negotiations to supply state company Eskom with electricity generated at its plants, in answer to the government's call for co-generation projects by industrial players.
