Creative designs drive SA exports
South African design exports - ranging from recycled bottle top mats to bathplug chain chandeliers - are being snapped up from Mumbai to Hong Kong, as a sampling of the local winners of the 2007 Elle Decoration International Design Awards reveals.



SA is ninth largest wine exporter
South African winemakers exported more than R3-billion worth of wine in 2006, making the country the ninth largest exporter of the product, according to the International Trade Probe, a report compiled by the National Agricultural Marketing Association.



SA boat builder expands in China
South African boat builder Robertson & Caine has struck a joint venture agreement with Chinese firm Flying Eagle to manufacture its catamarans in China, at the same time as it gears up to to build a second local shipyard outside Cape Town.



New Benz to boost auto exports
DaimlerChrysler has spent R2-billion upgrading its East London plant to manufacture the new Mercedes Benz C-Class, with the vehicles to be sold on the local market and exported to countries like the UK, Australia, Japan and, in a first for South Africa, the United States.
