SA's political parties square up

2 March 2004

Thirty-five political parties have registered to contest South Africa's April 14 election, with 11 squaring up at both national level and in all nine provinces.

Three parties have registered to contest the elections nationally only, seven have registered for both selected provinces and for the national election, while 14 parties have registered for selected provincial elections only.

Parties paid R150 000 to participate in national elections and R30 000 for each province.
