E Cape schools get connected

Pupils in 150 under-resourced schools in the Eastern Cape will get an opportunity to acquire computer skills this year as part of the "Connect Eastern Cape" campaign.
This was announced on Tuesday by the province's education MEC, Nomsa Jajula, when she handed over 11 computers to the Ernest Skosana High School in Port Elizabeth.
The computers are part of a consignment of over 400 computers donated by the South African Revenue Service.
"Connect Eastern Cape", run by government in collaboration with other organisations and businesses, aims to provide the province's poorer schools with computers and Internet access.
Jajula urged learners at Ernest Skosana High School to use the information and communication technologies at their disposal to make their communities part of the information age.
The school's principal, Mzwandile Njenje, said the computers were an investment in the future of the children.
Other Eastern Cape
schools that will receive computers and Internet access are in Cala, Sterkspruit, King William's Town, East London, Umtata, Elliotdale and Uitenhage.
