General educational resources

SA Agency for Science & Technology Advancement
Saasta, part of the National Research Foundation, aims to promote public understanding and awareness of science and technology, to nurture a new relationship between science and society, and to make science accessible and exciting to all South Africans.

Look out for Saasta's brand new science magazine for all young (and young at heart) South Africans, covering cool science topics from viruses to the universe and lots in between, and showcasing exciting work by SA's own science boffins. The magazine will incorporate both Archimedes and EasyScience, and will be published by middle October 2003.

The Teacher

School search engines

SchoolNet SA
Promotes learning and teaching through communications technologies. Made up of provincial school networks. The site hosts Electronic Schoolbook, a province-by-province list of schools' e-mail addresses and websites, where they exist. Also carries a list of non-South African schools, and links to universities and technikons.

SA School Directory
Plenty of school news and education-related information, as well as contact details for schools around the country. Also hosts Rainbow Kids, a Western Cape directory of pre-schools, au pairs, day mothers, etc.
