Mandela discharged from hospital
8 April 2013
Former president Nelson Mandela was discharged from hospital on Saturday "following a sustained and gradual improvement in his general condition", the Presidency said on the weekend.
Mandela would now receive high-based care at home, the Presidency said in a statement.
Mandela, who turned 94 in July, was admitted to an undisclosed hospital on Wednesday, 27 March with a recurrence of a respiratory infection that saw him undergoing hospital treatment in January 2011 and again in December 2012.
President Jacob Zuma "thanks the hard working medical team and hospital staff for looking after Madiba so efficiently," the Presidency said.
"He also extended his gratitude to all South Africans and friends of the Republic in Africa and around the world for their support."
