Mandela 'doing well' in hospital: Zuma

10 December 2012

President Jacob Zuma on Sunday visited Nelson Mandela at an undisclosed hospital in Pretoria, where the former president was admitted on Saturday in order to undergo tests.

In a statement issued by the Presidency, Zuma assures all South Africans that Madiba was doing well and that there was no cause for alarm.

"He found him comfortable, and in good care," the Presidency said, as it appealed to the media and the public to respect the privacy of Mandela and his family.

The Presidency added that it was consistent with Mandela's age that he received medical attention from time to time. Mandela turned 94 in July.

"We wish Madiba all the best," Zuma said. "The medical team is assured of our support as they look after and ensure the comfort of our beloved founding president of a free and democratic South Africa."
