Zuma meets new Brand SA board

30 November 2012

President Jacob Zuma met with the new members of the Brand South Africa board of trustees in Pretoria on Thursday to thrash out various issues affecting the country.

Last month, President Zuma appointed the new board members to help strengthen South Africa's brand identity locally and abroad.

Addressing the media after the meeting, Zuma said he had every confidence in the ability of the new board members. "Brand South Africa knows what is expected of them," he said.

Brand South Africa board chairperson Chichi Maponya said the board members were dedicated to improving the country's image.

"As the board, we are going to work hard to ensure that we rightfully position the country," Maponya said, adding that the board and the President had discussed "a number of issues which include key areas and the strategy for improving South Africa".

Deputy Minister for Performance Monitoring and Evaluation, Obed Bapela, who was also part of the meeting, called on South Africans to spread the good news about South Africa.

Bapela said there were a lot of positive things happening in the country. "South Africans must be proud of their country," he said.

Established in 2002, the primary objective of Brand South Africa is to develop and implement a proactive and coordinated international marketing and communication strategy for the country.
