World Cup: expect busy skies

South Africa's skies will be busy from morning to night during the 2010 Fifa World Cup, with South African Airways planning a 24-hour operation to shuttle football fans to and fro across the country throughout the tournament.
"SAA plans to run a 24-hour operation during the World Cup in order to accommodate match times scheduled and passenger movements around these," SA Airways spokeswoman Azure Janneker said in a statement on Tuesday.
Janneker said the airline was working with Match – the official provider of tickets, accomodation and logistics for the World Cup – to assist with transport.
Last month, SAA and Match signed a co-operation agreement in terms of which SAA will provide 45 000 return flights for Match customers between Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town.
It was still up in the air as to whether extra planes or pilots would be hired for the World Cup period. "No decision has been finalised on whether SAA will receive additional aircraft or personnel," Janneker said.
Janneker added that tickets would be costed according to the same pricing structure currently offered.
