Fuel, paraffin prices to drop

The retail price of petrol will drop on Wednesday, the Department of Minerals and Energy said last week.

Petrol 93 ULP and LRP and Petrol 95 ULP and LRP will both drop in price by 21 cents a litre. Petrol 95 ULP in Gauteng province will now cost R7.69 a litre, the department added.

The wholesale price of diesel with a 0.05% sulphur content will drop by 20 cents a litre. Diesel with a 0.005% sulphur content will drop by 21 cents a litre.

The wholesale price of illuminating paraffin will decrease by 14 cents a litre, and the single maximum national retail price for illuminating paraffin will decline by 19 cents a litre.

During the period under review – June 26 to July 30 – the average international product prices of petrol, diesel and illuminating paraffin decreased, the department said.

The average rand/US dollar exchange rate for the period under review was 7.9840 compared to 8.1093 during the previous period, the department said.
