The retail price of all grades of petrol will fall by three cents a litre on Wednesday, the department of minerals and energy said last week.

However, the wholesale price of diesel with a 0.05 percent sulphur content will rise by eight cents a litre, and that of diesel with a 0.005 percent sulphur content by six cents a litre.

The wholesale price of illuminating paraffin will increase by 13 cents a litre, and the single maximum national retail price for illuminating paraffin will rise by 17 cents a litre.

Petrol in Gauteng will now be priced at 735 cents a litre, while at the coast it will cost 711 cents a litre.

The department said during the past month the average international product prices of petrol, diesel and illuminating paraffin increased, while the average rand/dollar exchange rate strengthened compared to the previous review period.

"The average rand/dollar exchange rate for the period 27 March 2009 to 29 April 2009 was 9.1531 compared to 10.0655 during the previous period," the department said in a statement.
