Rand hovers around R8/$

The rand retreated against major currencies in noon trade on Friday while approaching the 8 rand against the dollar level again as an increase in risk aversion kept the dollar strong.
At 12.10pm the local unit was bid at 7.9464 against the greenback from its previous close of 7.8583.
The rand was bid at 11.1225 against the euro from its previous close of 10.9506.
Against sterling the rand was bid at 12.9905 from its previous close of 12.8350.
Gold was quoted $932.2 a troy ounce.
