Di Data expands in the Middle East

Global information communication technology (ICT) solutions and services provider Dimension Data has acquired a 51% stake in United Arab Emirates-based IT systems integrator Data Processing Systems (DPS) for an undisclosed sum, further consolidating the company's presence in the Middle East.

The acquisition also marks the launch of Dimension Data United Arab Emirates, with offices located in Dubai and Abu Dhabi.

"Dimension Data has an established track record of delivering world-class ICT services and solutions," said Dimension Data UAE executive chairman Georges Hannouche in a company statement this week.

"Combined with the local knowledge and skills of DPS and the company’s strong client base, Dimension Data UAE will be able to provide a greater strength and depth of service offering and solutions to the market."

The company's growth strategy in the Middle East & Africa region is to find partners to create locally based companies that have the required in-depth knowledge and experience of local markets and are able to leverage the global best practice and expertise residing in Dimension Data.

Dimension Data UAE MD Siddeek Rahim pointed out that the demand for ICT solutions in the UAE were enormous, and presented the company with the potential for considerable growth.

"The adoption of ICT solutions as an integral component to the operations of buildings, and the trend towards the intelligent buildings, has resulted in significant opportunities across the construction, hotel and financial services industries," he said.

"Dimension Data's expertise and experience specifically with regards to networking, positions the company well to take advantage of these market opportunities."

DPS has been operating in the UAE market for 25 years, and has a solid client base including Etisalat, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Emaar, Limitless, Gulf News, Al Habtoor Group and AMLAK Financing The company is a Cisco Silver Certified partner, and also has strategic technology partnerships with Foundry Networks and Nexans.
