JSE bounces back

The JSE closed solid in the black before close on Monday amid a good boost from rallying commodity counters while a positive opening on Wall Street contributed to the gains.

The JSE's all share index soared 1.84% and closed at 27423.470 points.

The platinum and gold mining indices rallied 3.47% and 2.59% respectively while resources jumped 2.64%.

Banks rose 1.29%, financials climbed 1.09% while industrials added 1.31%.

Among platinum miners, Anglo Platinum rocketed 4.40% to 174.50 rand, Impala Platinum added 2.97% to 174.50 rand while Lonmin rallied 5.11% to 221 rand.

Among gold counters, AngloGold Ashanti jumped 3.57% to 340.75 rand, Gold Fields lifted 1.46% to 111 rand while Harmony gained 2.15% to 80.70 rand

Resources heavyweight, Anglo American plc collected 2.93% to 324.75 rand while rival BHP Billiton added 2.41% to 233 rand. Synthetics giant, Sasol rose 2.12% to 298.19 rand.

Kumba Iron Ore climbed 1.90% to 261.50 rand.

Among industrials, brewer SABMiller advanced 2.09% to 220 rand, Barloworld lifted 1.75% to 49.90 rand while Imperial rose 1.68% to 81.90 rand.

Paper giant, Sappi climbed 2.19%, to 32.70 rand.

Fixed line operator, Telkom earlier reported interim headline earnings per share down 37.9% to 242 cents for the six months ended 30 September. The group said basic earnings per share declined 141.2% to 150.2 cents. Operating revenue was up four percent to R18.7-billion. Interconnect revenue was up 52.5% to R1.46-billion. Operating revenue from the Telkom South Africa segment increased by 2.9% to R17.026-billion, from R16.554-million, primarily due to higher interconnection revenue. Total dividends paid out during the reporting period were R11.2-billion.The group's share price eased 1.14% to 39.15 rand.

Meanwhile cellular gaint, MTN Group shed 37 cents to 119.40 rand however Vodacom collected 2.09% to 58.50 rand.

Retailer Woolies collected 2.59% to 17.44 rand, Lewis rocketed 5.29% to 52.50 rand, JD Group rallied 4.67% to 45.70 rand while Clicks soared 5.01% to 26.42 rand.

Media group Caxton dropped 2.54%, to 15.35 rand however Naspers shot up 4.56% to 292.25 rand while Avusa rose1.50%, to 16.25 rand.

Sugar giant, Illovo lifted 1.61% to 31.50 rand while Tongaat Hulett added 1.81% to 96.20 rand.

Banking giant, Standard Bank lifted 1.57% to 96.95 rand while Absa climbed 1.57% to 126 rand.
