Sign Africa draws record numbers

10 October 2008

It may cater to a niche market, but Sign Africa and the Africa In-Store Exhibition, held at Johannesburg's Sandton Convention Centre in September, drew a record number of visitors from countries across Africa and further abroad, including the USA, UK, China and Israel.

The three-day event, put on by Practical Publishing, featured 101 exhibitors and drew 4 309 visitors.

The exhibition showcased the latest trends and developments in the signage, display and graphics industries.

Exclusive brands

A range of wide and grand format machinery took centre stage with companies showcasing top of the range equipment. Exclusive global brands represented included Matan Barak, EFI Vutek, Mutoh, Agfa, Fujifilm, as well as a range of Jeti, Hewlett Packard and Roland printers.

International representation also took form at the Sign Africa Technology in Africa Conference with Dr Nicholas Hellmuth, president of the internationally acclaimed FLAAR Digital Imaging Resource Centre, and Dr Ross Allen, a respected member of Hewlett Packard and authority on HP inkjet technology.

Dr. Hellmuth and Dr. Allen were flown to South Africa from the United States to deliver their individual presentations and interact with visitors on behalf of their respective hosts.

Technology in Africa Conference

As a new addition to the Sign Africa 2008 experience, the Technology in Africa Conference achieved an exceptional response. A high calibre line-up of both international and local speakers delivered presentations focused on the technology trends currently available in the industry.

Dates for Sign Africa 2009 have already been confirmed for Port Elizabeth, Durban, Cape Town and Johannesburg. A flood of requests to reserve floor-space suggests that another successful year lies in store for both visitors and exhibitors.

Sign Africa is the premier trade show in Africa catering to the signage, display and graphics industries, nationally and internationally.

Each year it presents world-class professional exhibitions that demonstrate the extent and capacity of the industry within its African context, while continuing to meet the demands of and expectations of the global infrastructure.
