Hobby-X: entertainment for all

Hobby-X, taking place at the Coca-Cola Dome in Johannesburg from 4 to 7 March, is South Africa's leading exhibition of materials, equipment and supplies used for a wide variety of hobbies and crafts. Now into its 13th year, the expo will feature about 250 exhibitors.
Today, Hobby-X attracts not only visitors from across South Africa, but also from Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Mauritius, Swaziland, and from as far afield as the United Kingdom, Europe, and the USA.
Workshops
The 2010 version of Hobby-X will offer a variety of tempting workshops. They include learning how to make and decorate boxes, how to make chain maille bracelets, making unusual and amazing clocks, using the Creative Memories Cutting System, embroidery, handmade journals, Millefiori mosaics, pewter art, travel satchels, and creating metal clay art pieces in silver or copper.

The exhibition also offers excellent opportunities for buyers from businesses. The first day of the expo is an exclusive trade day, with buyers being admitted by invitation only, or by the presentation of an adequate business identification.
Product categories
There are six primary product categories on show: General Hobbies and Collectibles, Crafts and Creative Hobbies, Adventure and Outdoor Hobbies, DIY Home Décor, Sewing, Fashion and Habby, and Art and Scholastic.
Examples of General Hobbies and Collectibles offerings include, among others, astronomy, electronics, philately, numismatics, woodworking, music, genealogy and horse-riding.
Some of the Crafts and Creative Hobbies choices include beads, book binding, calligraphy, metal work, silk screening, weaving, leather, glass art, and clay modelling.
Under Adventure and Outdoor Hobbies, expect to find abseiling, bikes and accessories, canoeing and kayaking, paintball, paragliding, photography and more.
A taste of what one can expect from DIY Home Décor includes art, candle making, furniture restoration, lighting, paints and paint techniques, tools and mini-tools, and upholstery.
Sewing, Fashion and Habby features, among others, bags, dress designs, home linen, jewellery making, quilting, tapestry, and transfers.
Art and Scholastics includes abstract art, acrylics, books, brushes, drawing instruments, fine arts, inks, murals, iols, scuplture, and writing instruments.
