President Jacob Zuma is leading a South African delegation to the African Union Summit, which takes place in Sirte, Libya from 1 to 3 July under the theme: "investing in agriculture for economic growth and food security".

The delegation includes International Relations Minister Maite Nkoana-Mashabane, and Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry Minister Tina Joemat-Pettersson.

According to the Department of International Relations and Cooperation, the summit is expected to adopt a declaration and programme of action on investing in agriculture.

The summit will also consider reports from the AU's executive council, the AU Commission, and the New Partnership for Africa's Development (Nepad).

The AU Peace and Security Council will address the summit on peace and security on the continent.

Zuma, as chairman of the Southern African Development Community (SADC), is also expected to report on the outcomes of the SADC meeting on Madagascar that was held in South Africa earlier this month.
