Bafana Bafana will sport a new look in the Fifa Confederations Cup taking place in South Africa from 14 to 28 June. Adidas launched the South African national football team's away jersey at a breakfast in Johannesburg on Thursday.

Bafana Bafana players will wear the new jersey for the first time when they take on Norway in the Nelson Mandela Challenge match in Rustenburg, North West province on 28 March.

"Following our successful launch of the Bafana Bafana home kit in November 2007, we had to prepare a special design for the Fifa Confederations Cup," Adidas South Africa's Zobuzwe Ngobese said at the launch.

Design inspired by Confederations Cup ball

The jersey design was inspired by Kopanya, the Confederations Cup match ball.

The primary colours in the campaign are green with yellow, and there is a strong South African feel to the look of the jersey.

The new jerseys are engineered to provide comfort and improve the player's performance. They feature technology that keeps players dry and comfortable at all times, no matter how intense their workout on the field.

Bafana Bafana and world number one Spain, the European champions, are two of eight Fifa Confederations Cup teams that are sponsored by Adidas, and the global company will be hoping for one of the teams to reach the final.

All the referees, ball boys, flag bearers and players escorts will be wearing Adidas during the Confederations Cup and 2010 World Cup.

In April, Adidas will announce the names of 96 young people chosen to be flag bearers for the Confederations Cup.
