Good Hope FM's DJs got a taste of the high life - one kilometre high, to be precise - this week when they broadcast, and abseiled, from the top of Table Mountain in a hair-raising bid to garner vote's for South Africa's entrant in the New 7 Wonders of Nature competition.

There are less than three weeks left for South Africans to try get the country's flat-topped wonder, one of only two African nominees in the New 7 Wonders of Nature competition, permanently into the history books (and onto the travel itinerary of millions).

The results of the contest will be announced on 11 November.

On Monday, Cape Town-based radio station Good Hope FM broadcast all four of its daytime shows from the top of Table Mountain.

To add excitement to the campaign, and in an effort to convince listeners to vote for Table Mountain, the station's DJs lined up for the country's highest commercial abseil, courtesy of adventure operator Abseil Africa.

"Incredible day with @Vote4TableMount," tweeted breakfast host Guy McDonald. "Conquered my fear of heights with a 112m abseil off Table Mountain."

"There are three weeks left and it's very important that people vote," said Vote for Table Mountain campaign manager Fiona Furey. "We're either on this list or we're not, and this is the only time a competition of this nature will run."
