Home Affairs info now in Braille
South Africa has launched a Braille version of the Department of Home Affairs "Know your Home Affairs Services" brochure and other improtant documents, to better cater for blind people and ensure that they do not have to rely on others to access government services.



New-look passports on the way
South African passports issued to new applicants will soon bear the country's new coat of arms - long displayed on official documents and the SA currency. Those with older passports need not worry, however, as these will remain valid until their date of expiry.



Licence renewals made easier
Motorists in the Eastern Cape now have the option of renewing their vehicle licences at several Post Office branches in the province.



Tracking ID applications by SMS
People who apply for South African identity documents or passports - including those who applied after 9 February 2007 - can now track the progress of their application via cellphone or internet.
