The Department of Labour has launched 20 mobile units countrywide in an attempt to bring services such as the Unemployment Insurance Fund and Compensation Fund closer to communities.
Each province received two units, except for the Northern Cape and Eastern Cape, which each received three.
Speaking at the launch in Sekhukhune in Limpopo last week, Labour Minister Membathisi Mdladlana said his department had spent R10-million on the units, which were fully equipped with state-of-the-art technology.
Mdladlana said the mobile offices would be located mostly in rural areas, in line with the government's strategy for integrated sustainable rural development.
The new units will not replace exisiting Department of Labour offices, but will function as fully operational facilities to provide services related to the Unemployment Insurance Fund, the Compensation Fund, inspection and enforcement services, and employment skills development
services.
