South Africans will not be able to submit their applications for identity documents and passports
for a week from 27 November because the Department of Home Affairs will be undertaking
systems upgrades. It is expected that the upgrades will improve its services.
Doing business with the government is now quicker and the process smoother, thanks to the
Central Supplier Database. Launched by the minister of finance, companies wanting to work with
the state are urged to register on it. There are several benefits to being listed on the database.
A presidential campaign will deal with two critical challenges in South Africa: its high
unemployment rate, especially among the youth, and its large water losses. Some 15 000
