South African Airways (SAA) has increased its frequencies to Perth, and now flies non-stop to the Western Australian city every day of the week, up from five days a week previously.

"The increase in flights on the route is in line with SAA's strategy of strengthening its route network where there is potential to grow, and to meet market demand," SAA said in a statement this month.

"In addition, the new schedules provide great connectivity to and from Africa to help the mining and business communities to use SAA's Johannesburg hub as a major gateway into and out of Africa."

In addition to the daily Perth flights, SAA has six codeshare flights per week to Sydney operated by its partner, Qantas, bringing the total number of flights offered by SAA out of the Johannesburg to Australia to 13.

'Longest serving foreign airline'

The Australia route is one of SAA's most popular routes. In November 2009, SAA will celebrate its 52nd year of operations into Perth, and is the longest-serving foreign airline in Western Australia.

SA280 departs Johannesburg on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Sundays at 10.15pm and arrives in Perth at 1.25pm on the following days. The return flight SA281 departs Perth on Mondays to Fridays at 11.50pm and arrives in Johannesburg the following days at 5.45am.

SA282 departs Johannesburg on Fridays and Saturdays at 4.20pm and arrives in Perth at 7.30am the following day. SA283 departs Perth on Saturdays and Sundays at 11.20am and arrives in Johannesburg at 5.15pm on the same days.
