Africa's travel and hospitality industry will get together for the first time to discuss investment issues on the continent at the inaugural Hospitality Investment Conference for Africa, taking place at Cape Town's Arabella Sheraton Grand Hotel from 30 September to 2 October.
Hosted by the Tourism Business Council of South Africa (TBCSA) with support from industry players such as Golding Hotel Investment Consultants, the conference will feature local and international speakers and is expected to draw at least 500 industry representatives from across Africa.
According to TBCSA chief executive Mmatsatsi Marobe, tourism growth in Africa is no longer just a business proposition, but is also seen by governments as a vital for stimulating economic growth and development.
The conference "will strongly contribute to addressing Africa's challenges in a manner that continuously and effectively links knowledge on investment with the continent's development needs," Marobe said in a statement.
Speakers will include Lonrho Africa CEO David Lenigas, and Arthur Gillis, group managing director of Protea Hotels, which has approximately 120 hotels in 14 countries across Africa.
Golding Hotel Investment Consultants MD Joop Demes, who has facilitated investments in the South African hotel industry worth over R2-billion over the last four years, says the conference "will without doubt further stimulate investment in the continent's hotel, hospitality and leisure industry."
Conference sponsors include Pam Golding Property Group, Absa, Lonhro Africa, Timeshare Institute of South Africa, and Grant Thornton.
