SA trade, investment showcase

29 October 2007

The South African International Trade and Investment Conference and Exhibition 2007 will bring together local and foreign business people as it showcases the advantages of doing business on the southern tip of Africa.

The Department of Trade and Industry, along with Trade and Investment KwaZulu-Natal, are hosting the event at Durban's International Convention Centre from 29 to 31 October.

According to Zama Gwala, chief executive of Trade and Industry KZN, the conference aims to "transform South Africa into a must visit destination for prospective investors and traders around the world".

"Importantly, it will also provide an ideal opportunity for South African organisations and their international counterparts to form relationships and business alliances with key global role players."

The conference will consist of plenary sessions in the morning, followed by sector-specific breakaway sessions featuring speakers from the government, the private sector and academics presenting case studies.

Business presentations will be based on practical business opportunities, funding, trade agreements and incentive schemes.

A key feature of the conference will be the extensive business-to-business meetings between interested international buyers and investors and their South African counterparts.

The conference will also feature packaged projects from municipalities across South Africa, with a focus on ensuring that investors are easily able to access these projects.

On the final day of the conference, each of South Africa's nine provinces will make presentations highlighting their investment opportunities, infrastructure, facilities, investor support services and lifestyle issues.

Sectors to be targeted at the conference include the mining and minerals, financial services, automotive, bio-fuels, tourism, agri-business, pharmaceuticals, maritime, transport and logistics and information and communication technology sectors.
