Different business organisations in the country have signed an agreement under the auspices of Business Against Crime to give further impetus to the fight against crime.
The agreement, signed in Johannesburg last week, creates a forum for business bodies to share information with government on how to wage a coherent and effective fight against criminals.
The forum is made up of representatives from the Consumer Goods Council of SA, the Life Officers Association, the National Automotive Manufacturers of SA, the SA Banks Risk Intelligence Centre, the SA Fraud Prevention Service, the SA Insurance Association and the SA Petroleum Industry.
"This is an important step in fighting crime", said Business Against Crime CEO Kenny Fihla. "No one organisation can win the battle, and it is important for industry at large to work together.
"More importantly, we need to find ways of preventing crime before it is committed, and sharing
knowledge gives us the edge in predictive analysis", Fihla added.
The agreement follows a memorandum of understanding on the exchange of information signed by Business Against Crime and the National Intelligence Agency.
The two bodies will be meeting regularly to develop anti-crime strategies, identify joint initiatives and assess the effectiveness of the agreement, which will be in effect for a two-year period.
