A single computer mouse click will soon take people into wide-ranging information data on various government services when the Batho Pele e-Gateway information portal is launched next month.
Government first launched Batho Pele in 1997 as a commitment principle that departments and civil servants shall always put the interest of the people first in order to enhance service delivery.
Government spokesperson Joel Netshitenzhe on Thursday said the e-Gateway will provide one-stop, 24-hour access to information about government services via one website.
"This initiative complements other programmes to improve services to citizens, such as the employment of Community Development Workers and the launch of more multi-purpose community centres," he said.
Netshitenzhe added that Cabinet had noted that the government's programme of action, now placed on the government website, marked a new era in ensuring accountability and public involvement
in monitoring and evaluating government activities.
"While some comments have been received from the public, government wishes to further encourage such engagements.
"On its part, government will ensure that the programmes are updated in line with the various cluster's two-monthly reporting cycle to Cabinet," he said.
Government information can currently be accessed at the SA Government Online website.
