A Fifa delegation arrived in the country on Monday to inspect the country's stadiums ahead of the 2010 World Cup.
In South Africa's 2010 bid book, the SA Football Association (Safa) submitted 13 soccer stadiums for the tournament. Of these, eight will be used.
Addressing the media in Johannesburg on Monday, 2010 local organising committee CEO Danny Jordaan said the visit by the seven-member delegation marked "the beginning" of the World Cup in South Africa.
"They are here to get the feel or to see for themselves our venues to be used during the 2010 World Cup," Jordaan said.
Fifa communications director Markus Siegler said no decision or announcement would be made about the inspection.
A final decision about the final eight venues would only be made known after the 2006 World Cup in Germany, he said.
Among other things, the team will inspect whether the stadiums are close enough to transport and accommodation
facilities.
They visited Ellis Park Stadium in Johannesburg before proceeded to Loftus Stadium in Pretoria on Monday.
They will also be visiting stadiums in Rustenburg, Bloemfontein, Durban, the Nelson Mandela Metro and Cape Town.
