Petrol price down by 19c/litre

1 December 2004

The price of petrol dropped by 19 cents a litre on Wednesday, the Department of Minerals and Energy said.

Diesel with 0.3% sulphur content dropped by 20.7 cents per litre wholesale from 1 December, while diesel with a 0.05% sulphur content dropped by 22.7 cents per litre wholesale, the SA Press Association (Sapa) reports.

The maximum national retail price for illuminating paraffin dropped by 37 cents a litre.

The department attributed the decreases to drops in the average international product prices of petrol, diesel and illuminating paraffin, combined with the strengthening of the rand/US dollar exchange rate.

According to Sapa, the minister of minerals and energy also approved an increase of two cents per litre in the wholesale margin of the oil industry, and an increase of 0.3 cents per litre in the service cost recovery with effect from December 1.
