A new and improved South African Government Information portal has been launched, enabling easier Internet access to government information and services for ordinary citizens.
The redesigned portal was launched by Government Communications and Information System (GCIS) on Monday and is in line with the recently launched Batho Pele Government Services Gateway.
The difference between the sites are that while the Batho Pele Gateway provides online services such as electricity payments, the relaunched site is aimed mainly at providing information on issues such as health, education and housing.
Changes to the site include an extension of information in some categories, improved site navigation and a more consistent interface with the user.
A statement released by GCIS said the purpose of the portal was to provide a single entry point to all government online information.
"Information that can be accessed through the site include
regular reports on implementation of government's Programme of Action, contact information and documents such as the Constitution, Acts, Bills, Regulations, policy documents and annual reports," it said.
Members of the public will also be able to access links to websites containing content relevant to government's objectives and programmes.
"Government believes this initiative will further expand public access to government information," said the statement.
Both the government information and services portals can be accessed through Government Online website.
"Visitors to the information website are encouraged to give feedback on the redesign to help identify any improvements," added the statement.
