Home Affairs extends office hours
Richard Mantu

28 February 2005

The Department of Home Affairs has extended its offic operation hours in some provinces in a bid to extend service delivery beyond weekdays.

Some of the department's offices in Gauteng, Free State and Limpopo will now be open from 8am to 1pm on Saturdays.

The Polokwane regional office will be open until 6pm on weekdays and from 7.30am until midday on Saturdays.

During these extra hours, members of the public can collect or apply for identity documents, passports, birth certificates and other documents.

"The aim is to enable those who cannot, for various reasons, visit our offices during the week to have an opportunity to access services", said departmental spokesperson Nkosana Sibuyi.

Members of the public are advised to call the department's hotline - 0800 60 1190 -from Monday to Friday to find out which of their nearest offices will be open on Saturdays.
