Rewarding sustainable innovation
13 May 2005
The Innovation and Sustainability Awards 2005 will honour South African individuals and organisations, in both the private and public sectors, who have developed sustainable innovations to boost the country's competitiveness and standards of living.
The T-Systems Age of Innovation and Sustainability Awards, which celebrate innovation in business, and the Standard Bank CPSI Public Sector Innovation Awards, which recognise innovation in public service, united under the banner of the Innovation and Sustainability Awards in 2004.
The Standard Bank CPSI Public Sector Innovation Awards seek to find original ways to improve the way government works, recognising projects or policies that have improved service delivery in a sustainable fashion, and that extend democracy by addressing economic and social exclusion.
The Centre for Public Service Innovation (CPSI) is a Section 21 company that reports to the Minister of Public Service and Administration.
The T-Systems Age of Innovation and Sustainability Awards seek to identify projects or products - including new ways of doing, organising, managing or marketing - that are outstanding both in innovation and sustainability, and that would boost South Africa's presence in the global economy.
Both the private and the public sector awards go beyond applauding winners. They aim to raise awareness and pride in South African achievements in innovation, create role models, share knowledge, promote excellence, and highlight the role of innovation and sustainability in economic growth.
Past winners include Cida City Campus and DaimlerChrysler's Aids programme, as well as the Sunnyside unit of the SA Police Service for their work on preventing women abuse.
"We seek out these creative-spirited individuals from all sectors, whose ideas improve the delivery of products and services, and reward them for their drive and determination", the organisers say on the awards
website.
"It takes an exceptional person to take risks and challenge conventional practices to achieve this end and, for that, the best of you will be rewarded."
The closing date for entries to both awards is 13 June 2005. For more information, and online entry forms, visit the Innovation and Sustainability Awards website.
