Limpopo's ecotourism expo
23 May 2005
Limpopo Tourism and Parks (LTP) is hosting a five-day Wildlife Expo from 25 to 29 May to showcase all aspects of the province's wildlife and ecotourism industries.
Limpopo is home to 9 000 game farms employing some 70 000 people. It is South Africa's prime wildlife area, with protected game areas in the Waterberg region.
LTP general manager for parks Fixon Hlungwani said the event includes a conference, an exhibition and a game auction.
The expo is being held at Vaalwater in the province's Waterberg region.
The event highlights the Waterberg - less than two hours from Gauteng's main metropolitan areas - as an emerging tourism destination.
"We will also present environmental education workshops and talks by environmental experts from all parts of Southern Africa," Hlungwani said.
Local communities should reap many benefits from the initiative, with small business enterprises and accommodation venues exposed to a large influx
of visitors.
"Having been introduced to the region through this event, many of the visitors will undoubtedly return for holidays in the future," Hlungwani said.
