President Thabo Mbeki will meet his Gambian counterpart, President Alhaji Yahya Jammeh, in Pretoria this week. Jammeh is in South Africa for a three-day working visit.
The two presidents will discuss political and economic relations, the operationalisation of the African Union and its institutions, and the implementation of the New Partnership for Africa's Development.
Issues of trade between the two countries will also be on the agenda.
In 2000, South Africa exported goods worth R13.1-million to Gambia. These increased to R58.5-million in 2001, R30.8-million in 2002, and R31.3-million in 2003.
