SARS opens centre in Randburg
1 December 2004
The South African Revenue Service opened the doors to its new, dedicated taxpayer service centre at its Randburg branch, located at the corner of Kent and Hill Streets, on Monday. The new facility aims to improve service to taxpayers in northern Johannesburg and surrounding areas.
According to SARS spokesperson, Tasneem Carrim, the Randburg branch will now operate as a walk-in service centre catering for all tax needs including registration, submission of tax returns, fielding of enquiries and resolution of problems by trained, professional agents and consultants.
Taxpayers can also resolve queries relating to journals, statements of accounts, deferred payments, objections, appeals, clearance certificates, revised assessments, and changes to personal details.
The branch offers a one-on-one client service in a consulting environment on Mondays to Fridays between 7.30am and 4pm.
There is also a drop-box for cheque payments,
correspondence and documents positioned at the main gate entrance to the office.
The new centre forms part of SARS transformation project, which involves fundamental reform of its business operations to enable the organisation to prioritise efficiency and enhance customer relations.
"The Randburg branch is part of SARS’ vision to make compliance as easy as possible. By focusing on service we are making it easier for taxpayers to meet their obligations," Carrim says. "The opening of the centre is tangible evidence of SARS’ commitment to improve service delivery."
Carrim says the Randburg branch is one of a number of SARS offices in Gauteng that have undergone structural changes to ensure the success of the organisation's new transformational model and to enhance taxpayers' service experience.
Additional branch relocations that are driving the transformation of SARS' service delivery in Gauteng include the opening of the Carlton Centre branch on 4 October and the
new Large Business Centre (LBC) launched at Megawatt Park in September.
"The LBC is dedicated to providing personalised service to large corporate taxpayers including multinational organisations and companies, JSE Securities Exchange listed companies, and listed and unlisted companies with an annual turnover exceeding R250-million," says Carrim.
The Carlton Centre branch is SARS' largest taxpayer service centre, offering all revenue and customs-related services. "The relocation of taxpayer service teams from Rissik Street to the Carlton Centre is a major highlight of our transformation thus far," says Carrim. "The move demonstrates SARS' evolution, as it strives to provide effective and efficient service to South African taxpayers."
